Building my army!

Fear them! FEAR THEM!!

Churning out piles of mini Lovecraft sculpts. They'll require some cleanup, as there were some bubbles in both the silicone and resin, though overall I'm quite pleased to be able to pull one after another out of the molds.

Resin is some interesting stuff. Sticky and nasty in its separate components, and once you mix it up it gets super hot and you have to be careful not to spill it in your lap and on your nice work chair like a moron because OH GOD IT BURNS!

  1. Very cool! Do you have a mold making method you could share?

    1. Being as this was my first successful time making molds I wouldn't say I have a real "method," but I certainly learned a lot that I'm more than happy to share if anyone would find it useful. First off, buy good silicone! Smooth-on's "Rebound" is excellent, mixes 50-50 by volume, none of that fussing around with gram scales and the like. And for the love of all that is holy, take your time on the molds!! Mix silicone a little at a time and build up a couple thin coats, being careful to get into all the crevices. Bubbles in mold=more cleanup time with resin casts which is not fun.

I'll probably be writing up some more in-depth posts about the whole molding/casting process in the future.
